If your office holiday party still doesn't have a date, venue operators have a message: the best December slots are going fast. Caterers and event companies say corporate parties cluster on a handful of weekends, so planners who wait until November often find their first choice is already gone.
What's trending
In a September 2026 post, New Jersey caterer ICC Catering warned that the best venues, dates and catering teams fill first, and that December weekends are "almost always gone before Thanksgiving." The reason is simple math: corporate holiday parties bunch up between late November and mid-December, so demand for venues, staff and rentals spikes all at once. Its advice for anyone who wants a Friday or Saturday in that window is to book in September or October.
On the West Coast, Corporate AV Productions makes the same point: venues and top AV vendors book quickly, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area, so it recommends securing your production team at the same time as the venue.
Both are businesses that benefit from early bookings, so read the urgency with that in mind. But the pattern they describe is familiar to anyone who has tried to book a December Friday in late November.
Why it's resonating
Parties are getting more popular, not less. In ezCater's most recent survey, 82% of U.S. employees planned to attend their company's holiday party, up from 70% the year before, and 51% of businesses were raising their budgets. More companies chasing the same few weekends means tighter availability.
There's a workaround, too. The same survey found that 53% of employees would rather the party happen during working hours. A weekday lunch or an early-evening event can be easier to book, cheaper, and more popular with your team.
Once the date is locked, send the invitation
Booking early only pays off if your team hears about it early. December calendars fill with family plans and school events, so a good rule of thumb is to send invitations four to six weeks ahead for an evening party, and set an RSVP deadline about two weeks before so you can confirm numbers with the venue.
If you need something polished quickly, an editable office holiday party invitation lets you drop in your date, venue and RSVP details in Canva and send it the same day, as a phone-size evite for email, Slack or Teams, or a printable 5x7 for the break room.
The bottom line
If December is your target, October is decision time. Lock in the venue, consider a weekday or daytime slot if weekends are taken, and get the invitation out early, before your team's calendars fill up.
